MASS TIME CHANGES THIS SUNDAY!

Beginning this Sunday, June 4th,
our Sunday Mass will start at 9 AM,
to avoid the worst of the summer heat.

Confessions will begin at 8 AM.

This Sunday We Celebrate
the Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity

The Gift that Comes from the Cross
Tapping the Graces of Life's Aquifer

The Mission, like much of South Texas, draws its life-sustaining water from deep aquifers.

Last Sunday's Pentecost homily by Fr. John Mary was, for many people, a new way of understanding the power of Pentecost. We bring to your attention just a small part here.  (The full homily is available at the homily link.)

"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away [His Crucifixion], the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." (John 16:7)

Where did the Power of Pentecost come from?
The grace of Pentecost flowed from the power of Jesus' Sacrifice on the Cross.

At the moment that Jesus appears completely defeated,
the Holy Spirit was already at work in the apostles and disciples

even though they weren't aware of it:
giving the grace of union with Jesus to those who stood near His Cross;
humbling those who were weak and afraid --preparing them for their transformation at Pentecost.

The Cross was the hard part that prepared the way for the Gift of Pentecost.
When you unite your suffering to Jesus' Passion, the Holy Spirit is at work in you,
even though you may not be aware of it.

Sometimes the graces of the Holy Spirit are apparent, as they were in the apostles at Pentecost.
But  often the graces of the Holy Spirit are like a hidden aquifer,
in that we access them when suffering forces us to drill down deep to what is hidden.

When suffering seems to overwhelm us,
when we feel that we are being hollowed out, emptied,
Perhaps God is removing what is too human,
and preparing space in us for the action of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit Who transforms suffering into Saving Love.

A NETWORK OF TRUST

"This is what MDM is called to be: a growing communion of trust in His Mercy
for our needy world." ~ Fr. John Mary

MDM started encouraging people to pray "Jesus, I trust in You"  ten times a day back in 2011. Recently we felt it was important to remind people to turn to Jesus with this simple, powerful prayer in a world that feels more and more out of control. We are suggesting 20 times, but some people find themselves repeating it hundreds of times. It reminds our troubled souls that GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Many of you have put your name on our growing list and have also left a prayer intention or testimony:

If you can’t trust Jesus, who can you trust? Jesus I Trust in You, 20 times is easy now. I say it many times when I’m driving instead of saying what I used say! !~ Ronnie

"Jesus I Trust In You!" I will continue to claim God's Promise - Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 .  I believe I did the best I could as a mom. I need prayers now for me. May our Lord Jesus Christ, place in my heart, Soul and mind to just trust Him and to be able to learn to "Live and Let Live" and to "Let go and let God" handle the rest of my journey now that they are adults. Praying in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen! ~Guadalupe

Pray for my mother Rosie who just had surgery for stage four colon cancer , my father Armando and my sister Iris for strength and healing. Pray for my husband Charley who has severe depression, anxiety and has no will to do anything even live…pray for Gods grace to fill him. ~Ronda

Fr. John Mary's Sunday Homily

Our Cross and Pentecost

MAY 28, 2023

No moment in Jesus’ ministry seemed farther from the power of Pentecost than His Death on the Cross. Yet, mysteriously, the Gift of the Holy Spirit flowed from His Sacrifice. What light does this shed for us today?
