A Prayer or A Curse?

The Name of Jesus

Usually in this space we are looking ahead but today we want to call attention to one  recent feast day that may have slipped your notice:
the Feast of the HOLY NAME OF JESUS, celebrated on January 3rd.

Ancient Hebrews were forbidden to take God’s name lightly.  Not only did they call it the “ineffable name” and the “unutterable name,” the Book of the Law says “whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to death ” (Lev 24:16).

But  in our world today the name of Jesus is blasphemed,
used as a curse word, mocked and insulted on a regular basis.

Why would Jesus allow His HOLY NAME to be spoken by us,
knowing that it would be mocked and hated?
Perhaps He allowed it because,

THE VERY NAME OF JESUS IS A PRAYER.
THE VERY NAME OF JESUS SAVES HIS CHILDREN.
Each time that you say His Name with love, HE IS PRESENT.
When you REPEAT HIS NAME
you  block out all the lies with which the enemy wants to drown you.

Therefore God has highly exalted Him
and bestowed on Him the Name which is above every other name,
that at the Name of JESUS every knee should bow,
in Heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."
(Phil 2:9-11)

His thrice-holy, all powerful Name is His Gift to us,
a sign of His Love for us.

Despite knowing how it would be treated, He allowed us to receive it.
That is how much He loves us.
And we should think of that each time we say His Name.

One small thing that you can do  when you hear or read the name of Jesus used blasphemously is to turn it into a prayer:
Jesus... I love You.
Jesus...I trust in You.
Jesus...have mercy on us.

A Saturday Morning Reflection

"The Devil Bound for a Thousand Years"

The Millennium and Millenarianism

Presented by Br. Mikael

Saturday, February 4, 9:15 AM
Msgr. O'Callaghan Center
No Registration Required

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were ended. After that he must be let out for a little while…Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (Rev. 20:1-4)

This mysterious passage at the end of the book of Revelation has been a subject of interest and controvery throughout Church history. It has also been the subject of many heresies which we call Millenarianism. In this talk we will look at interpretations found in the Fathers, Doctors, Saints, and mystics, as well as Church history and the Magisterium.

Update on Jared
Jared is definitely making progress as he works most days with his speech, physical and occupational therapists. Knowing the extent of his injuries, it feels miraculous to see him standing upright. But the road ahead is still long. Speech and physical therapy is still an arduous process. The "road rash" injuries to his skin are taking a long time to heal, as is the wound to his lower back.  Short term memory issues are improving but still a challenge.  The family is very grateful for your continued prayers.

Confession is heard Saturday mornings by appointment,  and on Sunday mornings from 9:00-9:45 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A NETWORK OF TRUST

"This is what MDM is called to be: a growing communion of trust in His Mercy
for our needy world." ~ Fr. John Mary

MDM started encouraging people to pray "Jesus, I trust in You"  ten times a day back in 2011. Recently we felt it was important to remind people to turn to Jesus with this simple, powerful prayer in a world that feels more and more out of control. We are suggesting 20 times, but some people find themselves repeating it hundreds of times. It reminds our troubled souls that GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Many of you have put your name on our growing list and have also left a prayer intention or testimony:

I just came upon this site while researching Retreat Centers in San Antonio. I felt very drawn to this beautiful place right away. I hope to be in San Antonio in April and am looking for a place to prepare for major family event . Jesus, I Trust in You!

I desperately need a silent retreat. Y’all are amazing. Thank you for all that you do. ♥️ Merry Christmas ~ Mary
