THE BEGINNING OF HOLY WEEK | |
INSPIRING RADICAL TRUST One of Jesus’ most often repeated phrases was “Fear not.” It has been noted that this sentiment appears at least 365 times in Scripture. That would be one reminder for every day of the year. Our Lord knew that we would often feel frightened and anxious. It must be very important to Him that we move beyond fear. Fear paralyzes the soul. If we are afraid of something, we can only BANISH that fear by having GREATER TRUST in something else. But the fear we see so often today—deep and despairing, enflamed by the Enemy—seems to demand more than our ordinary acts of trust. Trust that overcomes such fear is not just ordinary trust, but RADICAL TRUST. Trust beyond all reason, all evidence, all hope, all imagining. Boundless trust.
Who or what can inspire such RADICAL TRUST?
Jesus didn’t just say “Fear not.” He didn’t leave us wondering who or what to trust. He told us where to put our trust: in HIM. He is the only One worthy of our RADICAL TRUST. “Jesus, I trust in You.” It’s helpful to repeat it every day. Ten times a day. A hundred times. (You can’t overdose on it!) As often as you feel frightened, anxious, confused. Trusting in HIM makes all the difference.

IN HONOR OF THE YEAR OF ST. JOSEPH Many years ago, we were given an old statue of St. Joseph that was removed from a church undergoing renovation. St. Joseph was missing a hand, and so was the Child Jesus. But a parishioner who loved this statue wanted it to go to a good home and not a rubbish heap. So for the last several years, St. Joseph has been standing in the front room of St. Raphael's, greeting people with his kind regard. Finally, in honor of the Year of St. Joseph, two friends of the Mission offered to make the repairs. | |
SOME PRACTICAL THINGS TO CONSIDER IF PARTICIPATING IN
HOLY WEEK AT THE MISSION - Parking for Friday's Way of the Cross will be in the parking fields used for Sunday Mass in order to alleviate congestion and noise during the Stations. You might want to allow extra time to get over to the meadow .
- THOSE NEEDING HANDICAP OR GOLF CART ASSISTANCE on Good Friday will be directed to park in the lot in front of the OCC.
- In observance of health regulations, and to respect the comfort level of others, please remember to observe social distance during the Way of the Cross.
- INFORMATION TABLE ON GOOD FRIDAY - The Mission grounds will remain open on the afternoon of Good Friday for quiet reflection. There will be an Information Table just below the Sacramental Shed, manned by Mission staff and volunteers from 11:30 - 5:30. There will be "Walk with Jesus and Mary" brochures and waivers for those who want to hike the further reaches of the Mission.
- Flashlight? You will be returning to your car in darkness on Thursday evening, and arriving in darkness for Easter Vigil.

SCHEDULE FOR HOLY WEEK SERVICES Holy Thursday – April 1 7:30 PM - Mass of the Institution of the Eucharist at the Teocalli. At the conclusion of Mass there will be a procession to St. Joseph Chapel where a vigil will be kept until 10:30 PM. Golf carts will be available for those who cannot process on foot. Good Friday – April 2 8 AM - Mission opens
9 AM – Walking Way of the Cross – Gather at the meadow below St. Michael Hall.
NOON – 6 PM-The Mission grounds will remain open to the public for quiet reflection throughout the afternoon.
NOON – 5 PM – The Relic of the True Cross will be present in the niche behind the altar in St. Joseph Chapel for private prayer.
6 PM - Divine Mercy Novena at Teocalli
6:30 PM - Service of the Passion at Teocalli
Mission closes after Service of the Passion Holy Saturday – April 3 9 AM - Rosary of Our Lady of Sorrows followed by Divine Mercy Novena at St. Joseph
9 AM -11AM Confessions at St. Joseph Chapel (Open to all. First come, first serve)
12 PM - Mission Closes Easter Sunday - April 4 6:00 AM - Easter Vigil Mass - at Teocalli
