Tomorrow, Saturday, August 27th is
the Feast of St. Monica.

The Feast of St. Augustine is August 28th.

Praying for Your Child

Image of St. Monica and St. Augustine, decoupaged on a Mission rock by Peggy Brown.

Among my most treasured possessions is this Mission rock featuring St. Monica and her son St. Augustine. It was given to me by my son when I arrived in Texas, two years after he joined MDM. We had both come a long way to arrive at this point.

Many people know the story of Monica who prayed for years for her wayward son Augustine, who had rejected the Christian faith and pursued a dissolute lifestyle.  With the help of St. Ambrose, Monica eventually witnessed her son's  conversion and baptism. He went on to become a Doctor of the Church.

A mother prayed. God's grace was present.
A young man opened himself to God's grace and his heart was converted.

I am no Monica, and my son is no Augustine, but our story bears a resemblance to theirs, a resemblance that is shared by millions of other mothers and fathers who are heartsick about the life their child is leading. A life that is leading them away from God, and from the practice of their faith.

Trust that the prayers of a parent are very powerful before the Throne of Heaven. Your prayers will pursue your child's heart relentlessly, like the Hound of Heaven. Even though you may feel helpless, even though in your heart of hearts you feel that the situation is beyond hope, trust in the One Who loves your child and cares for his or her soul even more than you do.

Never stop praying for your child, even though you may be praying for six months, six years, or sixty years. Your prayers are making a difference.

Life Threatening Injuries
Prayers for Her Child

Susannah, our consecrated laywoman, received a call Wednesday morning that her son Jared was gravely injured in a bad motorcycle accident.  He has multiple very serious injuries.  Whether he will survive and in what condition is not known at this point.  Your prayers are very much appreciated.
Jesus, we trust in You.

Novena Rains

We received a gentle rain on the first day of the Novena and then a good rain on the last day. Rain continuing around this parched region in different locations. The rain is a visible, tangible answer to one of our intentions. Be alert for answers to your prayers that may not be so tangible.

"This is what MDM is called to be: a growing communion of trust in His Mercy
for our needy world." ~ Fr. John Mary

MDM started encouraging people to pray "Jesus, I trust in You"  ten times a day back in 2011. Recently we felt it was important to remind people to turn to Jesus with this simple, powerful prayer in a world that feels more and more out of control. We are suggesting 20 times, but some people find themselves repeating it hundreds of times. It reminds our troubled souls that GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Many of you have put your name on our growing list and have also left a prayer intention or testimony:

Divine Mercy has been a huge part of our family for years. Jesus I trust in you is part of our polish and czech heritage. God has blessed our family with a desire to seek and to know him. God is good. Blessed be his holy name now and forever. ~Karci

The Gift of Knowledge
6th in Series on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit

How can we properly appreciate the magnificent creation that God has made for us, yet without making it an idol?  And how can we discern what ideas are in accord with the Revelation Jesus has given us?  The Gift of Knowledge sheds light on both of these.
